ABOUT US

Our Story

Onion Creek began in 1963, when landowner Rex Kitchens, golfer Jimmy Demaret, and developer Jimmie Connolly envisioned a golf and residential community on 750 acres in South Austin. The Onion Creek Club opened in 1974, featuring the only course ever designed by Demaret. As he famously said, “God put it here and Mother Nature was the designer. All I did was manicure it.”

The course soon gained national recognition, hosting the Legends of Golf tournament in 1977—the richest in golf history at the time—and later expanded to 27 holes.

A Growing Community

From the first homes sold in the 1970s to the latest additions in 2013, Onion Creek has grown into an 865-acre neighborhood of more than 1,400 families. The community features a mix of condominiums, townhomes, and single-family homes, all embraced by creeks, oaks, pecans, and cypress trees.

Living at Onion Creek

Consistently named one of Austin’s safest neighborhoods, Onion Creek blends natural beauty, vibrant wildlife, and a top-ranked golf club at its heart. Supporting it all is the Onion Creek Homeowners Association, which helps keep the community secure, well-maintained, and welcoming for generations to come.
